Field Notes from a Photo Shoot

Twice a year we gear up for a new season of leather goods. We pour over new leathers, we pick our colors for the season, we order hides of leather. Nicki creates new designs and tweaks classics. The bags are lovingly cut and sewn. We scout the perfect location to match the mood of our bags, and FINALLY we take pictures of said bags... usually. This time around was not so smooth...

Full disclosure- September IS usually the best month in the PNW.... sunny summer days waning into fall with a few of our quintessential cloudy days thrown in. Beautiful. But not really... when you are waiting for a cloudy day and Every. Single. Day. is sunny. Our photographer, Michele M. Waite, was amazingly flexible and was adamant that we wait for the right day. She was right but, there was a lot of texting and screen shots that looked like this...

So, a little late to make it happen in the next hour. What about Saturday? No. Good.

For the love of every Pete that ever lived... can we please just get One. Single. Cloudy. Day.

We set and canceled three different shoots. Once, we even made it to our location, chased a few clouds then spent the next hour staring at the sky hoping for more. It looked like this....

After an entire month of weather watching, our perfect cloudy day finally arrived. Mayhem ensued. We rearranged childcare, pick up, drop off, meetings, and doctor's appointments...we basically moved heaven and earth to make sure we could shoot on the one and only cloudy day in September (one of us may or may not have lost track of one child but they were all accounted for at the end of the day). Don't think we don't see the irony in waiting, with baited breath, for a cloudy day in the Pacific Northwest. It would have been funny if we weren't so ready to show YOU all our new bags and leathers!

Just so you get the full photo shoot experience, we are including some of the beautiful product pictures taken by Misha as well as some of the hilarity and outtakes from behind the scenes.

I think this is what we imagine of when we think of a photo shoot....

When in reality a shoot looks a little more like this...

What? "Grace" is my name and falling in goose poop is my game.

Misha is an unbelievably gifted photographer. It is especially apparent when she gets a shot like this...

From a goofball like this...

We prayed and pined and begged for a cloudy day. The clouds and mist rolled in and the hair products rolled out...

Thankfully Misha took a bad hair day and made it look like this...

Seriously, its all about the bags... and a couple more outtakes...

Without further adieu, some of our very favorite shots of the Fall/Winter Collection...

Worth. The. Wait.
