A Few of Our Favorite Things

Art is such a great gift to give at the holidays, especially for the person that seems to have everything. Here are a handful of our favorite maker people from across the country. Caroline at Oh Chalet! creates whimsical, adorable mini-paintings. Each one is a little different from the last, and many feature her signature foxes. These are great on a wall in groups, or one of a kind on the little easel she sends for display. Samirah at Seedling Clayworks throws unique, eye-catching pieces that are beautiful and functional. We are picky about our mugs around here, and these are just perfect! You have to be quick to catch her shop updates, but trust me, it's worth it!Rebecca Haas creates stunning,...

Field Notes from a Photo Shoot

Twice a year we gear up for a new season of leather goods. We pour over new leathers, we pick our colors for the season, we order hides of leather. Nicki creates new designs and tweaks classics. The bags are lovingly cut and sewn. We scout the perfect location to match the mood of our bags, and FINALLY we take pictures of said bags... usually. This time around was not so smooth... ::found:: on a journey

It's been said that every journey begins with a single step. Our first step took place in a cold concrete basement with some cut up leather coats and a hand-me-down sewing machine. Though it was a huge shift in our business, it was necessary to keep things rolling, and Emily has taken on the challenge with gusto. Now that we...

Reading Material

One of my favorite things about being part of the global community of makers, is meeting other makers and getting inspired by the work they are doing. With all of the business of running a small business, personal engagement time with other creatives is not always possible. However, there seems to be a new genre of magazine popping up that is helping me do this from the comfort of my own beach chair.  With a billion digital images bombarding me in a constant stream online, there is something centering, almost nostalgic, about sitting down with physical, printed material.  So if these are the sort of things that feed your soul: read on. Trouvé  'Trouvé is a bi-annual printed magazine celebrating the creative...

Peek at the Process

Piece by piece. Step by step. Each ::found:: leather good comes together. We are excited to be giving you a peek at the process...from inspiration to design to crafting and finally to being ::found::.  ::inspire:: Inspiration for our designs comes mainly from a desire for a balance between form and function. When it comes to our bags, you could say we like to put the fun in function. ::design:: Back in the early days, every design was different, started from scratch every time. Only recently have we started putting the designs down on paper for future reference. Making the same bag in a new color is almost like making a whole new design, but takes so much less time! ::craft::...
